MEXICO - Jaguar is still considering a plant in Mexico, possibly to produce LR products as well.

Jaguar Land Rover is considering building a plant in Mexico, following other luxury car makers lured by cheap labor and free trade agreements. Mexico is a "very strong option" for Jaguar Land Rover to invest in, possibly more than $500 million, said Joseph ChamaSrour, Jaguar director general for the brand in Mexico.

"Three years from now it could be interesting to have a plant in North America, and Mexico would definitely be a very strong candidate because of the cost of labor, the logistics and the expertise of the whole supply network," he said in an interview in Mexico City.
Jaguar Land Rover, owned by India's Tata Motors Ltd., would tread a well-worn path to Mexico, Latin America's top vehicle producer, which has already wooed Germany's premier luxury brands.
BMW AG last year committed $1 billion to start turning out 150,000 cars in 2019, following Volkswagen AG's Audi and Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz in deciding since 2012 to build cars in Mexico.
Earlier this month Toyota Motor Corp., the world's best-selling automaker, said it will spend about $1 billion to begin producing Corollas in 2019 in Mexico, its first car factory in the country as it ends a self-imposed freeze on new plants following the financial crisis.
Hyundai Motor Co. may also build a factory in the country, its managing director in Mexico said earlier this month, joining a roster of other Asian manufacturers including Nissan Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co.
Automakers are flocking to Mexico to take advantage of a low-wage yet highly experienced labor base, and export access to the U.S. and other countries through the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport are top sellers in the U.S. and could possibly be produced at a new Mexico factory because it would be tied to the U.S. market, ChamaSrour said.
He didn't rule out producing Jaguars at the plant.

Jaguar’s Director of Design, Ian Callum, collects Designer of the Year Award.

  • Jaguar’s Director of Design, Ian Callum, collects Designer of the Year Award after topping The Drum’s coveted Designerati list
  • Ian Callum top with Maggie Hodgetts, Head of Graphic Design at Waitrose and Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer at Burberry in second and third place respectively
  • Ian praised for his dedication to innovation and eye for detail in his car designs including the Jaguar F-TYPE, XE and all-new XF
  • Designerati list celebrates elite group of the top 100 most influential individuals in UK design
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design, has won the Designer of the Year Award after taking the number one position in The Drum’s second annual Designerati – a list celebrating the top 100 most influential individuals in UK design.
The expert panel of judges decided Ian is this year’s most influential UK designer finishing top ahead of Maggie Hodgetts, Head of Graphic Design at Waitrose and Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer at Burberry in second and third place respectively.

Stephen Lepitak, editor of The Drum, said: "Ian Callum is a visionary of British design. From his roots at Ford in the 1970s, to his craftsmanship on Aston Martin, his influence on car design is legendary.
"His beautifully simple designs, including the 2013 Jaguar F-TYPE and the new XF, unveiled last month, have ushered in a new era for Jaguar, breathing life into the classic brand.
"Ian's dedication to innovation, his eye for detail and his strong vision for what Jaguar cars should look like truly represent the best of design in the UK."
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design, said: “It is an honour to reach the number one position in the Designerati list. For an automotive designer to claim this award is very special indeed – especially considering the depth and array of talented UK designers across the disciplines of architecture, fashion and graphic design.
"Being ranked number one and winning The Drum's Designer of the Year Award is testament to the fantastic team at Jaguar I’m privileged to work with every day.”
Individuals on the Designerati list are judged on their overall career successes todate and highlights over the preceding 12 months as well as general involvement in the industry as a whole.
Ian’s career includes time at Ford, where he worked on the Escort Cosworth, and Aston Martin where he was key to the design of the DB7, DB9 and Vanquish. The first examples of Jaguar’s design direction under Callum were the luxury XK grand tourer, the XF saloon and XF Sportbrake, XJ saloon car and the two-seater F-TYPE sportscar. September 2014 saw the launch of an all-new Jaguar model line in the form of the XE, followed closely in March 2015 by the introduction of the second-generation XF.
Since joining Jaguar in 1999, Ian and his team have created striking concept cars such as the R-Coupe, RD-6, C-X17 and the C-X75, recently announced as featuring in the 24th Bond movie, Spectre due out later this year.
This is Ian’s second major honour within six months after he was awarded the Minerva Medal by the Chartered Society of Designers for his outstanding contribution to automotive design.

  • Luxury and sports car manufacturer Jaguar announced as official car partner to All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) for Wimbledon
  • Jaguar to supply vehicles from its  award-winning range including XE, XF and XJ models
  • Jaguar Ambassador José Mourinho launches Jaguar’s partnership with the AELTC as Official Car of Wimbledon
  • Mourinho hails Wimbledon as “the special Grand Slam” on first visit to SW19

British luxury and sports car manufacturer, Jaguar, is announced today as The Official Car of The Championships, Wimbledon.

Sporting icon and Jaguar ambassador José Mourinho was given his first Wimbledon experience to mark the occasion as part of a tour hosted by AELTC Committee member and Former British No. 1 tennis star Tim Henman.

A new short film capturing Mourinho’s reaction to the Wimbledon experience may be viewed above.

Mourinho was given a tour of the historic surroundings of SW19 and followed in the footsteps of Wimbledon champions by making the celebrated walk to Centre Court.

Wimbledon is more than a Grand Slam. You have great tournaments, great matches, but Wimbledon is Wimbledon. The tradition, the history around this tournament is magnificent. There are some iconic moments in your sports history, and in football to play at Wembley is a special moment. It is similar to Wimbledon. The aura is very difficult to explain – you come in and you just feel it,” said José Mourinho.

Commenting on his favourite memory of the Wimbledon tennis championship, Mourinho said: “The one that I really felt was Andy Murray’s victory because it was very special for him. Winning Wimbledon is the same for all the players, but for a British player to win Wimbledon after so many years I felt so much emotion. I am not British, but on that day I felt like I was.”

Jaguar and Land Rover will supply 170 luxury and high performance vehicles to support tournament operations. The new Jaguar XE and XF, as well as successful XF Sportbrake and XJ models will be seen in London at this year’s Championships.

Laura Schwab, UK Marketing Director at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Wimbledon is a British icon, which is recognised globally as the pinnacle of international sport. There’s no other event like it.

“The tournament captures our imagination in different ways. For some it’s the feeling of summer, but for others it’s British sport at its best. We’re very excited to be working with the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club to establish our new partnership and celebrate what makes Wimbledon so special.”

Former British No.1, Tim Henman, who now sits on the Committee at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club said: “When you talk about Wimbledon being a quintessential tournament and part of the British calendar, you can talk about Jaguar being a quintessentially, luxury British brand. I think they complement each other well.”

Mick Desmond, Commercial Director at the AELTC, added: “We're delighted to welcome Jaguar as a partner to Wimbledon and into our family of world class brands. We are very proud of our unique British heritage and are looking forward to another great tournament this summer with one of Britain's most iconic luxury brands."

The Championships, Wimbledon 2015 runs from 29 June to 12 July 2015.

DRIVER POWER - Jaguar celebrates a quartet of great results in the AE Driver power 2015 results.

  • Jaguar XJ tops executive car class and finishes seventh overall in the Driver Power top 100
  • Jaguar F-TYPE finishes second in the sports car category, with the XK in third
  • The Jaguar XF scores best-in-class for ride quality, finishing fourth in the executive car class
  • Strong scores and rankings prove the current Jaguar model line-up is a hit with owners
Jaguar has scored an impressive set of results in this year’s Auto Express Driver Power customer satisfaction survey with an executive car category win, second and third place in the sports car category and several best-in-class awards.

Top of the executive car table was the Jaguar XJ, scoring 92.46 per cent for customer satisfaction. Owners praised the flagship luxury saloon for its eye-catching styling and winning blend of comfort, performance and in-car technology.

Plaudits also came for the XJ’s ease of use and, thanks to its aluminium construction and efficient 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel, and 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engines, its running costs. As a result, the XJ finished comfortably inside the overall top ten, in seventh place.

The Jaguar F-TYPE finished second in the sports car category in its Driver Power survey debut. As you’d expect for a Jaguar sports car, owners sung the praises of the F-TYPE’s blistering performance and its handling, seat comfort and ride quality.

Finishing just behind the F-TYPE was the XK, which won plaudits for its glamorous looks, ease of use and comfort. Owners ranked the XK as second overall in terms of performance.

Completing an excellent run of results was the XF, which was voted best-in-class for ride quality and finished a brilliant fourth overall in the executive car class. Owners eulogised about how easy it is to drive and also how impressive its performance is, with top ten finishes in both these categories

Steve Fowler, Editor-in-chief of Auto Express said: “Jaguar has stormed back to the top in the Driver Power ratings recently, and its cars continue to impress owners. The XJ took an impressive victory in the executive class and finished in the top 10 overall. Jaguar’s sports cars also score highly with owners – both the F-Type and XK/R ranked highly in Driver Power 2015.”

Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, said: “We’re enormously proud of these results as they’re proof that the Jaguar range is strong across the board, with all our cars winning praise from owners whether they are looking for a comfortable executive car or a thrilling sports coupé. What is even more exciting is that with the XE, new XF and F-PACE on the way, the Jaguar line-up is only going to get stronger.”

Earlier this month, Jaguar Land Rover UK launched a new Approved Used Programme offering increased benefits and peace of mind to customers wishing to buy a used Jaguar.

It provides vehicles under five years old and under 100,000 miles with a premium-sector leading two-year unlimited mileage warranty, 165 checks and a consequential damage guarantee up to the vehicle purchase price.
