  • Designerati list celebrates elite group of the top 100 most influential individuals in UK design
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design, has won the Designer of the Year Award after taking the number one position in The Drum’s second annual Designerati – a list celebrating the top 100 most influential individuals in UK design.
The expert panel of judges decided Ian is this year’s most influential UK designer finishing top ahead of Maggie Hodgetts, Head of Graphic Design at Waitrose and Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer at Burberry in second and third place respectively.

Stephen Lepitak, editor of The Drum, said: "Ian Callum is a visionary of British design. From his roots at Ford in the 1970s, to his craftsmanship on Aston Martin, his influence on car design is legendary.
"His beautifully simple designs, including the 2013 Jaguar F-TYPE and the new XF, unveiled last month, have ushered in a new era for Jaguar, breathing life into the classic brand.
"Ian's dedication to innovation, his eye for detail and his strong vision for what Jaguar cars should look like truly represent the best of design in the UK."
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design, said: “It is an honour to reach the number one position in the Designerati list. For an automotive designer to claim this award is very special indeed – especially considering the depth and array of talented UK designers across the disciplines of architecture, fashion and graphic design.
"Being ranked number one and winning The Drum's Designer of the Year Award is testament to the fantastic team at Jaguar I’m privileged to work with every day.”
Individuals on the Designerati list are judged on their overall career successes todate and highlights over the preceding 12 months as well as general involvement in the industry as a whole.
Ian’s career includes time at Ford, where he worked on the Escort Cosworth, and Aston Martin where he was key to the design of the DB7, DB9 and Vanquish. The first examples of Jaguar’s design direction under Callum were the luxury XK grand tourer, the XF saloon and XF Sportbrake, XJ saloon car and the two-seater F-TYPE sportscar. September 2014 saw the launch of an all-new Jaguar model line in the form of the XE, followed closely in March 2015 by the introduction of the second-generation XF.
Since joining Jaguar in 1999, Ian and his team have created striking concept cars such as the R-Coupe, RD-6, C-X17 and the C-X75, recently announced as featuring in the 24th Bond movie, Spectre due out later this year.
This is Ian’s second major honour within six months after he was awarded the Minerva Medal by the Chartered Society of Designers for his outstanding contribution to automotive design.

DRIVER POWER - Jaguar celebrates a quartet of great results in the AE Driver power 2015 results.

  • Jaguar XJ tops executive car class and finishes seventh overall in the Driver Power top 100
  • Jaguar F-TYPE finishes second in the sports car category, with the XK in third
  • The Jaguar XF scores best-in-class for ride quality, finishing fourth in the executive car class
  • Strong scores and rankings prove the current Jaguar model line-up is a hit with owners
Jaguar has scored an impressive set of results in this year’s Auto Express Driver Power customer satisfaction survey with an executive car category win, second and third place in the sports car category and several best-in-class awards.

Top of the executive car table was the Jaguar XJ, scoring 92.46 per cent for customer satisfaction. Owners praised the flagship luxury saloon for its eye-catching styling and winning blend of comfort, performance and in-car technology.

Plaudits also came for the XJ’s ease of use and, thanks to its aluminium construction and efficient 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel, and 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engines, its running costs. As a result, the XJ finished comfortably inside the overall top ten, in seventh place.

The Jaguar F-TYPE finished second in the sports car category in its Driver Power survey debut. As you’d expect for a Jaguar sports car, owners sung the praises of the F-TYPE’s blistering performance and its handling, seat comfort and ride quality.

Finishing just behind the F-TYPE was the XK, which won plaudits for its glamorous looks, ease of use and comfort. Owners ranked the XK as second overall in terms of performance.

Completing an excellent run of results was the XF, which was voted best-in-class for ride quality and finished a brilliant fourth overall in the executive car class. Owners eulogised about how easy it is to drive and also how impressive its performance is, with top ten finishes in both these categories

Steve Fowler, Editor-in-chief of Auto Express said: “Jaguar has stormed back to the top in the Driver Power ratings recently, and its cars continue to impress owners. The XJ took an impressive victory in the executive class and finished in the top 10 overall. Jaguar’s sports cars also score highly with owners – both the F-Type and XK/R ranked highly in Driver Power 2015.”

Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, said: “We’re enormously proud of these results as they’re proof that the Jaguar range is strong across the board, with all our cars winning praise from owners whether they are looking for a comfortable executive car or a thrilling sports coupé. What is even more exciting is that with the XE, new XF and F-PACE on the way, the Jaguar line-up is only going to get stronger.”

Earlier this month, Jaguar Land Rover UK launched a new Approved Used Programme offering increased benefits and peace of mind to customers wishing to buy a used Jaguar.

It provides vehicles under five years old and under 100,000 miles with a premium-sector leading two-year unlimited mileage warranty, 165 checks and a consequential damage guarantee up to the vehicle purchase price.

Vehicles purchased through the programme also get an independent history and mileage check, MOT cover, complimentary seven-day drive away insurance, UK and Europe road side assistance and a 30-day/1,000 mile vehicle exchange policy.

Saturday Night Takeaway Winner takes delivery of her Nissan Juke from Motorpoint.

Emma Trott has driven away in a brand new Nissan Juke thanks to Motorpoint and Ant n Dec. The 26 year-old from Gorseinon in Swansea was picked out from hundreds of people to compete for the £14,000 Nissan Juke 1.6 Visia in Sunlight Yellow live on Ant n Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Emma has always wanted to own one of the hugely popular SUVs but could never afford to do so until she heard about the prize on offer from Motorpoint, the UK’s leading car supermarket, and applied for an opportunity to appear in the ITV show’s finale – which sees one lucky person win the items advertised in one of that week’s commercial breaks.

“I’ve never won anything in my life,” explained Emma, who collected the car from Motorpoint’s branch in Newport. “I couldn’t believe it when I got through to play the competition live on TV.

I was a bag of nerves throughout and to be honest didn’t realise what I’d won until afterwards when Ant n Dec were reading out the prizes – especially the Nissan Juke.

Everyone knows how much I’ve always wanted one and now I’ve got one I’m still pinching myself.  It’s absolutely amazing and I have to say a big thank you to Motorpoint for making it all possible.”

Ross Padfield, Sales Controller at Motorpoint Newport, added: “It was a real pleasure to hand over the keys to Emma. To say she was delighted to be the owner of a brand new £14,000 Nissan Juke from Motorpoint was a bit of an understatement.”

Emma also won car insurance, glasses, a holiday and a year’s supply of mature cheese on the show, which attracts in excess of six million viewers every week on ITV 1.
