MEXICO - Jaguar is still considering a plant in Mexico, possibly to produce LR products as well.

Jaguar Land Rover is considering building a plant in Mexico, following other luxury car makers lured by cheap labor and free trade agreements. Mexico is a "very strong option" for Jaguar Land Rover to invest in, possibly more than $500 million, said Joseph ChamaSrour, Jaguar director general for the brand in Mexico.

"Three years from now it could be interesting to have a plant in North America, and Mexico would definitely be a very strong candidate because of the cost of labor, the logistics and the expertise of the whole supply network," he said in an interview in Mexico City.
Jaguar Land Rover, owned by India's Tata Motors Ltd., would tread a well-worn path to Mexico, Latin America's top vehicle producer, which has already wooed Germany's premier luxury brands.
BMW AG last year committed $1 billion to start turning out 150,000 cars in 2019, following Volkswagen AG's Audi and Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz in deciding since 2012 to build cars in Mexico.
Earlier this month Toyota Motor Corp., the world's best-selling automaker, said it will spend about $1 billion to begin producing Corollas in 2019 in Mexico, its first car factory in the country as it ends a self-imposed freeze on new plants following the financial crisis.
Hyundai Motor Co. may also build a factory in the country, its managing director in Mexico said earlier this month, joining a roster of other Asian manufacturers including Nissan Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co.
Automakers are flocking to Mexico to take advantage of a low-wage yet highly experienced labor base, and export access to the U.S. and other countries through the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport are top sellers in the U.S. and could possibly be produced at a new Mexico factory because it would be tied to the U.S. market, ChamaSrour said.
He didn't rule out producing Jaguars at the plant.

Land Rover Discovery Sport now with Ingenium power, Fair MPG and not too bad CO2 either.

  • Land Rover announces new Ingenium diesel engine for Discovery Sport
  • Enhanced efficiency and refinement for award-winning premium compact SUV
  • delivers CO2 emissions from 129g/km and up to 57.7mpg fuel economy for TD4 150PS four wheel drive
  • TD4 180PS derivative with 5+2 seats delivering 139g/km and up to 53.3mpg in both manual and nine-speed automatic transmission options
  • New HSE Black added to UK line-up following positive customer feedback
Land Rover has announced its innovative Ingenium diesel engine will be introduced to the Discovery Sport. Following its highly successful launch in September 2014, the premium compact SUV will now be available with enhanced performance and economy.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine is designed to deliver class-leading torque and power outputs, combined with excellent refinement, reduced CO2 emissions and lower fuel consumption.

The Discovery Sport’s EU6 compliant Ingenium engine will be available with two power outputs, 150PS and 180PS. The new 150PS derivative in its five seat set-up provides fuel economy of up to 57.7mpg and CO2emissions from 129g/km, whilst the TD4 180PS in its standard 5+2 configuration delivers 139g/km and 53.3 mpg on the combined cycle.
The arrival of these cutting-edge engines, which will replace the current diesel engine in EU6 markets, ensures Discovery Sport is one of the most efficient premium compact SUVs that both private and Fleet & Business customers can buy.
Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes, said: “Land Rover’s new family of Ingenium engines is truly class leading. By introducing it to the Discovery Sport, we can now offer enhanced fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions, while improving overall performance. The Ingenium engine confirms Discovery Sport’s position as the most versatile and capable compact premium SUV in the world.”
The new aluminium TD4 engine features lightweight construction, with stiff cylinder blocks and decoupled injectors, which ensures low levels of vibration and noise intrusion, further enhancing the driver experience.
A series of advanced technologies reduce internal friction, improve refinement and enhance overall performance. In addition, Selective Catalytic Reduction and a new low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system significantly reduce both CO2 and NOx emissions.
The Ingenium-powered Discovery Sport TD4 150PS will be designated an ‘E-Capability’ vehicle, with a blue ‘Sport’ badge highlighting the most efficient variant. These vehicles will also feature 18-inch wheels with low rolling resistance tyres. The final drive gearing and engine calibrations have been optimised to provide the lowest possible CO2 for the vehicle. E-Capability introduces a five seat option in the UK for the first time, with all TD4 180PS variants remaining with 5+2 seating as standard.
The Discovery Sport is equipped with a range of class-leading safety features, such as a first-in-segment Pedestrian Airbag, Autonomous Emergency Braking (both standard) and a suite of driver assistance features; all of which has led to the Discovery Sport being awarded with a Five Star Euro NCAP rating.
Pricing for the Discovery Sport featuring Ingenium engines remains unchanged whilst the new TD4 150PS engine brings a lower starting price of £30,695 for the manual five seat ‘SE’ trim. Across the range service intervals have been extended from 16,000 to 21,000 miles lowering running costs over the vehicle’s lifetime.
This coupled with the financial benefits from lower tax and reduced fuel costs, reflects real-world savings for the customer. Furthermore, a number of retail finance options are  available allowing customers to step into a new Discovery Sport from £299 per month for the entry-level SE specification.
In the UK, the revised model line-up adds HSE Black which builds on the existing HSE specification and features the popular Black Pack and privacy glass enhancing the visual appeal in response to positive customer feedback. The HSE Black Auto is priced at £41,250 on the road.
Land Rover’s advanced new Ingenium engines are manufactured in the UK at the company’s new state-of-the-art £500m Engine Manufacturing Centre in the West Midlands, which is set to produce 450,000 Ingenium engines each year.
Since its launch in September 2014, Land Rover UK has received more than 6,500 orders for the new Discovery Sport, and together with Jaguar Land Rover’s range of Ingenium engine, have contributed more than £4bn to the UK economy and created 1,650 jobs.
The new Ingenium engine is available to order now with first customer deliveries commencing from September 2015.

Jaguar Land Rover receives another Queen's Award, this time for reducing its environmental Impact.

  • Queen’s Award made to Jaguar Land Rover for reducing the environmental impact of its products and operations.
  • Key factors include the company’s world-leading aluminium vehicle engineering expertise, new low-emission ‘Ingenium’ engines, and reductions in operational energy, waste and water usage at its plants.
  • Follows the company’s 2014 Queen’s Award for International Trade and takes the total number of these awards won by Jaguar and Land Rover to 14.
Jaguar Land Rover has received a 2015 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, for reducing the environmental impact of its products and its operations. This is the 14th Queen’s Award that Jaguar and Land Rover have received since 1967 - the second year of the scheme. It follows a 2014 award for International Trade, in recognition of Jaguar Land Rover’s outstanding overseas sales growth.
"Jaguar Land Rover is honoured to receive this 2015 Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development,” said Dr Ralf Speth, the company’s CEO. “We are focused on growing a long-term, sustainable business, as leaders in environmental innovation and making a positive impact on society.”

The award has been announced during Responsible Business Week, which is appropriate timing as Jaguar Land Rover was named Responsible Business of the Year 2013/14 by Business in the Community (BiTC).
‘Whole lifecycle’ approach
The company’s 8,000 designers and engineers take a ‘whole lifecycle’ approach to vehicle development, aiming to reduce impact on the environment right through from raw materials to eventual vehicle disposal.  These measures have already helped significantly reduce CO2 emissions, with the company’s EU fleet average on track to be 25% lower in 2015 than in 2007.
Jaguar Land Rover is a world leader in the design and manufacture of aluminium-intensive vehicles, pioneering the use of closed-loop processes to drive recycled content and reduce environmental impacts across the lifecycle.  Benefits include weight saving, higher fuel efficiency, lower emissions, improved crash safety and even better vehicle dynamics.  The latest generation Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, for example, are each up to 420kg lighter than equivalent predecessors.
Now, a new family of highly efficient, ultra-low emission, aluminium four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, named Ingenium, has been developed to power new and future Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. The engines have recently entered production at the company’s brand new £500m Engine Manufacturing Centre near Wolverhampton, which was opened in October 2014 by HM The Queen.
Aluminium-intensive and advanced technologies
The all-new Jaguar XE mid-sized sports saloon demonstrates Jaguar Land Rover’s uses of advanced technologies to create a vehicle that leads its sector.  The XE can achieve fuel economy figures of 75mpg and CO2 emissions down to 99g/km.
Hybrid technology is another area that has seen significant Jaguar Land Rover investment in recent years. The Range Rover Hybrid and the Range Rover Sport Hybrid are now both available, using an advanced hybrid system and without compromise to their renowned all-terrain capabilities.
Jaguar Land Rover has also significantly reduced its operational energy, waste and water usage at its UK manufacturing plants.  The new Engine Manufacturing Centre has been designed and built with strong emphasis on sustainability, including the UK’s largest rooftop solar panel installation, which will generate up to 30% of the site’s energy.
Doubling the workforce and increasing skills
Jaguar Land Rover’s approach also contributes to social, economic and leadership dimensions of sustainable development.  The company is helping address the UK skills gap, with a training and skills programme aimed at young people at school (STEM initiatives), recruitment of over 2,000 apprentices and graduate engineers in the last five years, and investment in on-going training to develop engineering skills among its workforce.
“We have doubled our workforce in five years, developed a culture of continually increasing their skills and we are helping to inspire the next generation of engineers,” said Dr Speth.
The company also has a sector-leading global Corporate Social Responsibility programme to deliver opportunities for 12 million people worldwide by 2020.  In the first year of the activation (2013/14), 1.5 million people benefitted from education and clean water opportunities through NGOs such as the Red Cross and Climate Care.
As well as the 14 Queen’s Awards, Jaguar Land Rover is proud to be the only automotive company to hold all three Royal Warrants, as an official supplier of goods and services to the households of HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales.
