Peugeot 308 R Hybrid concept storms into Auto Shanghai with 500 PS and 730 Nm
0-100 km/h takes 4 seconds
After last week's online debut, Peugeot has introduced the 308 R Hybrid concept at Auto Shanghai 2015 in China.
Peugeot is showcasing these days in Shanghai a different kind of an R model as the concept adopts a plug-in hybrid powertrain by mixing up a 1.6 THP with two electric motors mounted one on each axle. The combustion engine delivers 270 PS (199 kW) while each of the electric motors produce 115 PS (85 kW). With a massive combined output of 500 PS (368 kW) and 730 Nm (539 lb-ft), it's no wonder the 308 R Hybrid concept needs just four seconds until 62 mph (100 km/h) and will top out at an electronically-capped 155 mph (250 km/h).
The powerful heart is matched with an aggressive body featuring beefy air intakes, wide fenders and a roof-mounted spoiler. The AWD high-performance hatchback can be driven in ZEV mode which means it will act as an electric vehicle receiving power from the rear electric motor while depending on the pressure applied onto the acceleration pedal the front electric motor is activated.
The Hot Lap mode unleashes all the power and there's also a Track mode (with 400 PS & 530 Nm) where the combustion engine works with the rear electric motor while the front electric motor "serves as an additional booster when accelerating." The 308 R Hybrid concept also has a fourth mode called Road (with 300 PS & 400 Nm) which provides the full power of the conventional engine while the rear electric motor offers assistance during accelerations.
Unfortunately, there's no word about a production version, but at least we know a 308 R is planned for this year and will likely have a 1.6 THP with 270 PS (199 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft).
